Merrell MQM Flex 2 Mid Review

·

Introduction

So, you’re looking for a new pair of hiking boots and don’t know what to get? Well, you’re in luck. I just got a new pair of “Merrell MQM Flex 2 Mid GTX” pair Merrell MQM Flex 2 Mid GTX”. I’m going to give you a bit of information about them and my personal experience using them. So that you know whether or not these boots are the right ones for you.

My Experience With The Boot

I have much praise for the Merrell MQM Flex 2 Mid GTX. I haven’t used it for as long as my previous boots, but I can already feel that these are so much better in multiple aspects, and I’ll get into them for you now.

Firstly, these boots are incredibly comfortable, even the first time I wore them and they hadn’t been broken in properly. They just fit my feet perfectly. They felt like I had been using them for a while. It had something to do with the Merrell Air Cushion in the heel. No other pair of boots I’ve had have been like this from the first step I took in them. They also feel good on uneven terrain as the shoe bends with your foot and is not stiff.

The aesthetics of the Merrell MQM Flex 2 Mid are another great thing about these boots. Not only are they extremely comfortable, but they also look nice. I have the orange and black versions, but a few other colours are available. I particularly like how they incorporate the orange into the boot I got, it is subtle, and I think it makes the boot look nice (and not too ‘in your face).

My third point is the feel and material of these boots. These boots are meant to be entirely waterproof, aided by a GORE-TEX®. They have a Waterproof mesh upper that ensures no water will get in. Unless it goes over the top, but that is a given. I can safely say that they do hold up in the water; for this review, I did step in a deep puddle and cover them entirely in the snow to check that there were no leaks.

They kept my feet warm, which I think is very important, but the two pairs of socks I had on at -2 degrees Celsius could have had something to do with that. The boot is lightweight, coming in at 1 lb 12oz / 788g. However, it feels sturdy due to the Rock plate that Merrell integrated into the sole. When walking in this boot, you don’t feel like you are dragging your feet along; it feels very fluid and smooth.

My final point is on the grip, and let me tell you, these have so much grip, from damp rocks to snow and ice. As I don’t own crampons was a little worried about going out in the snow and ice. I felt comfortable the whole hike, and not once did I slip or even feel like I was going to. The Merrell mountain-grade Quantum Grip sole they have put on this boot is fantastic.

My Final Opinion

In conclusion, I have nothing bad to say about these boots. They’re honestly the best boots I have owned, and I’d recommend them to anyone. And when I was in the store, I saw all the colours and the orange ones looked the best.

My Ratings:

  • Comfort 5/5
  • Aesthetic 4.5/5
  • Performance / Grip 4/5
  • Overall 4.5/5
