The Scarpa Manta Tech GTX is a B2-rated boot. It isn’t cheap, coming in at £325 RRP at the time of writing. Is it worth that hefty price tag? Read this post to find out. In this post, we will go over the specifications of the boot. I will also give my opinion on the boot, and whether or not you should buy them.
What I think of the Scarpa Manta GTX
The Scarpa Manta GTX is an excellent robust, supportive and comfy boot. I’m a fan of Scarpa for climbing, but I have never had a pair for mountaineering. I can say these haven’t disappointed me. Firstly, I chose to get the women’s version as I liked the colour, but looking at the boot in person and the specs, there are no differences that I can see.
My experience with this boot is a multitude of winter, spring, autumn and summer mountains, Along with grade one winter gullies and vertical ice walls at the Ice factor. I have put this boot through the paces. They comfortably handled everything I threw at them. The Vibram sole is great and gives you confidence in each step, and the Gore-Tex upper is what helps keeps your feet dry.
The sturdiness and weight of this boot make it ideal for winter in the UK, with enough weight and support to dig deep in the snow and put force in your kick. Being a winter boot, it’s made for cold weather and water. I never had any leakage, and my feet felt comfortable but started to feel cold, around -6 ish air temperature. I wouldn’t recommend this as a boot for hard winter climbing and mountaineering, though, as they aren’t designed for that.
I’m a fan of this boot and would rebuy it for UK winter mountaineering. However, with my eyes on the Alps, I may upgrade to an even more ridged and robust B3-rated boot. If you are looking for your first winter boot, I highly recommend the Scarpa Manta GTX.
